"I need to live in a home where I can get help but still keep my independence"
We know it's important to stay independent for as long as possible, in your own home.
If you have a learning disability, mental health problem or any other needs that make it hard for you to live on your own, living or spending a few nights with a shared lives carer in their own home could be a good option for you.
To qualify to live in a shared lives home, you should be aged 18 or over, and your needs assessment must identify that you:
Some people move in with their shared lives carer, while others visit regularly for overnight stays. You will have your own bedroom, and will share the rest of the house with your carer and their family.
You’ll take part in the regular family activities, such as walks, meals out and special events like birthdays. You’ll also spend time with your carer and get involved in community life.
